Confession

I love it when my kids cry and can only be comforted by me... Shh don't tell Grant.  I try to put on a good show for him and sometimes huff and puff and act all irritated by it.  But secretly deep down it makes me feel like a superstar!

Tonight Maizie got put to bed and all she did was standing in her crib and scream, so odd for her.  I went up once and tried to calm her in the rocking chair but it wasn't working.  I put her back in her crib and the scream continued.  A few minutes later I took her into my bed and laid down with her.  I kissed her face, rubbed her hair, and held her really close.  She was asleep in a couple of minutes.  It felt so great!  I was tired, sore, and grumpy but I didn't want to get out of my bed.  I did though because Sofia needed a cuddle too.  I gently moved Maizie into her crib and laid down next to Sofia for a couple of minutes.

I love being a Mum.

Christmas Day

Bedtime in our house is 8pm but we were having so much fun at Grants parents house we didn't pack up and leave until 9pm.  We got home, got Santas snack ready, and got to bed.  The girls bedroom was pretty quiet pretty quickly.  I woke up at 630 and by 7 I had to get up, I couldn't stand it anymore.  I got breakfast ready to put in the oven (this year I made an apple braid), settled on the couch with my coffee, and started a skype conversations with my parents.  Grant came down around 730 and by 8 he was very impatient... He started getting loud around 815 and it wasn't too long before we heard Sofia on the stairs on her way downstairs.  She was just starting to open her stocking when we heard Maizie and Grant went up to get her so she could join the party.  I don't really remember much of it, I was videoing it with my camera and trying to make sure that the girls stayed in the frame of the computer so my parents could see.
According to Sofia this year Santa wanted purple cookies.
She left him three and he was kind enough to leave her one.
She was pretty excited that Santa left her one.

After Santa came and all the presents were added.

830 Christmas morning.
The girls were allowed to open their stockings and Santa presents before breakfast.
After stockings and Santa presents we took a break to eat breakfast.  While we were still at the table Grant brought me my birthday/Christmas present, I think he couldn't wait another second for me to open it.  It was 4 nice bath towels wrapped around a very lovely DSLR camera!

There aren't too many other pictures from the day.  After breakfast we opened a few more presents and then we took a break to play outside.  After that we got back on skype with my parents and opened even more presents.  Then it was lunch and nap time.  For the rest of the day we just hung out together and enjoyed all the new toys we all received.

Sofia got some presents she's been waiting a long time for, a remote control car (a race car) and a scooter.  She is subdue in her reaction but the excitement is there if you know her.  "YES!" "I've been asking for this!" "I told you I wanted this!" "This is my favourite in the whole world."
I knew I was the mother of two girls when the best reactions came from the many packages of clothing my mother gave them.

Christmas Eve

I love that I married into a Norwegian family!  It means that Christmas lasts longer.  Christmas for them is Christmas Eve, which leaves Christmas Day (MY birthday) all to us (or in the occasion that my parents are visiting to my side of the family).  With two young kids having Christmas spread over a longer period of time is such a bonus.  Sofia was so excited for Christmas this year.  During all the preparations I tried to focus on the giving and not the receiving.  Sofia was excited about the presents that she helped picked for others and she liked giving baked goods and chocolates to people in our lives (preschool teachers, friends, doctors).  I think that on the 24th when she woke up and we yelled "Happy CHRISTMAS!"  she was most excited about getting to see her Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents and Cousins.  I won't lie she's 3.5 and was very excited to open presents but I'm very happy with the balance we were able to achieve.
Ethan 5, Beckett 3, Sofia 3.5, Maizie 1

My angles in their beautiful Christmas dresses.

Maizie admiring (?) festivus. (yes she touched a flame & wasn't too happy)

8pm and still going strong.  Pretty dresses were traded for new cozy pjs.
The mess from the present opening was cleared and silly time with Grandpa Chris began!

This was where it started but it got even sillier.  I was laughing too
hard to get pictures though.

7 months!

How far along: 28 weeks
Weight: 178 lbs

Sleep: Just hit a new level of difficult.  My pelvis began aching two days ago and feels like it's ripping apart so rolling over is evil.  Getting comfortable on my side is becoming increasing difficult and it takes me ages to get all organized with pillows and props.  When I wake up to roll over it takes about 30 minutes to get settled again.  Maizie is cutting the last part of her molars (her teeth grew in so odd the outsides came in first and now the insides are cutting).  She's such a trooper though and has been sleeping pretty good, considering.  For most of the last month I've been awake with her once a night, just a quick bottle and a cuddle and she's happy to go back to sleep.

Energy: I think it's pretty good.  I've been eating extra protein to try to keep my iron levels up and it feels like it's working.

Movement:  The baby moves lots particularly when I sit or lie down.  The movements are starting to get interesting and amusing as it rolls from side to side or sticks it's feet, knee, or elbow out.

Feeling:  Eesh, this is a tricky one.  I'm feeling excited to meet this person.  I'm feeling nervous because I'm worried about how big I'm getting, how big the baby might be, or when exactly they are going to choose to be born.  I'm feeling eager to start preparing for their arrival, even though it's way to early to do anything.  I'm feeling overwhelmed because there is so much I'd like to accomplish in a day and I never seem to get half of it done.

What I miss:  Being comfortable in my bed.  Bedtime used to be my favourite time of the day, crawling into my comfy bed with my snugly blankets and squishy pillow.  However the last few days I've been dreading bedtime and put it off as long as possible.

Food cravings:  None that I can attribute to the pregnancy.  I've recently started falling in love with cooking and so I'm having lots of fun trying out new recipes and food combinations.

Food aversions:  None that I can think of.  The thought of eating fish still grosses me out but I had no trouble eating a bunch of scallops, prawns, and crab legs on New Years!

Gingerbread House

We got invited over to Auntie Reginas house to make a ginger bread house.  Maizie ran around playing with her cousins toys while the 'big' kids decorated their houses.  Daddy helped a bit and then Mummy got to help too.  Mostly it was all Sofia and I will say she did a great job!

Sofia put the tree on the top of the house, I think it's to honour the 25' tree of lights that Grant strung on the front of our house this year.  Grant added the "solar panels" on the roof.
Sofia wanted a skating rink so she and I made one with blue smarties in the yard.

Preschool Christmas Party

Sofias preschool had a Christmas party and I'm glad I got talked into taking the girls.  There was a musical clown and a visit from Santa as well as lots of yummy treats!  Sofia LOVED the clown and was very engaged by her.  She even got to be the special helper, standing in front of everyone and helping with a magic trick.  Sadly I missed this part, but I know it involved an orange because she came running out to show it to me and told me the clown told her she could keep it!
Beckett, Auntie Regina, & Maizie
Sofias cousin Beckett goes to the same preschool (on opposite days) so we got to hang out with her cousins and Auntie too.
Sofia playing a shaker while they sang Christmas songs.
She chose to stand directly beside the clown making my stomach turn!  I have a 'fear' of clowns, I think they are SO creepy!  I do a pretty good job of keeping my opinions from affecting my childrens lives but I will admit here that I really didn't like how comfortable Sofia was with this clown...
